About

established in 2012

The Roseville Area Composite Mountain Bike Team (or RAC MTB for short) started in 2012 with nine kids and three coaches. We started with students from the Roseville region and even had an Olympian on our team! As the other teams got bigger and split off (Mounds View, Irondale, Mahtomedi, Totino Grace) we continued to grow. With Sara and Rich Fish as legendary coaches for 5 years the Roseville Area Composite team thrived! With the Fish’s retirement from coaching the team is looking forward to a new chapter.

Our season runs from July – October. We typically practice on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the summer and Tuesday/Thursday once school starts We have occasional weekend adventures and really try to make it fun for all the kids no matter what their skill level. Races are on Saturdays and Sundays starting the end of August and going to Mid-October.

the team

Coaches – Our coaches are parents, past riders, and community members who are all trained and vetted by the Minnesota Cycling Association. We are always welcoming new coaches. Coach training information can be found here

Riders – New and experienced riders 6th – 12th grade from the Roseville, St. Anthony, Centennial school districts as well as students from area private and charter schools such as Concordia Academy, St. Charles, Lionsgate Academy as well as homeschool students. All student riders participate in skills training appropriate for their development level in mountain biking and ride in small pods with coach assistance.

Practice and Racing – Registration for the team and races begins April 1st for returning riders and April 15th for new riders. Team practices and skills training officially begins in July. In the summer months the team typically practices three evenings per week with occasional team field trips on a weekend day. Once the school year begins we trim down to two evening practices per week. Practice consists of skill building, small group coaching, all team rides and skills specific group rides. There is no attendance requirement for practices except that all riders must report their attendance in our team communication app – TeamSnap. Race season begins at the end of August and goes through mid October. The team participates in 4 weekend races, plus state finals, and locations vary around the state so some traveling is required. Race registration is not a requirement to be a part of the team. Although racing is a great way for youth to challenge themselves to create and strive for personal goals, we understand that youth and families have many commitments and interests. Our goal is to develop riders who will continue to enjoy the sport into adulthood and keep those bike vibes alive!
